The types of symptoms that may result from an injury to the head are wide ranging. The courts put these injuries into categories according to their seriousness. The compensation awards for individuals who make a full recovery from their injuries within a few weeks are usually at the lower end of the scale. The most common symptoms attributable to a minor head injury are headaches.

At the higher end are compensation awards for those whose injury results in a permanent disability. People who are awarded a sum at the top end of this bracket are likely to show no meaningful response to their environment, possess little or no language function and require nursing care. These higher awards quite rightly take into account that this type of severe injury can reduce the quality of life of the sufferer, and even their ability to relate to their own friends and family.
